
And it should be. Gasoline is going to hit $5/gal this year and probably won't come below $4/gal for quite some time. Cries of "let's sue OPEC" and "let's fine the oil companies" can be heard throughout by people who don't understand who will ultimately pay those fines or are just looking for a scapegoat. The fact of the matter is we pay far less than most who depend on foreign fuel. Competing with nations we considered undeveloped only a handful of years ago for dirty inefficient energy obtained from areas of the world where we are unpopular SHOULD be expensive. Think about that first part for a minute. How sad and embarrassing is it that we are fighting the world's poor for fuel? I have to say that while it might be painful for gasoline to run $5/gal I really hope it does, because we're just now starting up the conversations we should have had decades ago. The high price of oil will only bring us closer to alternative energy sources.
