...I have a few words on the subject.
Or more like statements.
First off, I want to know a legitimate reason not to vote, particularly in this election? Perhaps you don't think either is fit to run our country, but what can you do about that? One of them will ultimately win-- and thus why not pick the better (or in some people's opinion "The lesser of the two evils") candidate? This also goes for people who will be writing in other candidates-- because what purpose will that serve? Once again either McCain or Obama WILL win--and you've done nothing to help decide that, yet they will be governing our nation for the next four years. Complain all you want about how neither is fit--but coming from someone who can't vote and wishes she could it really makes me angry when I find out people who can, are choosing not to because they've decided to take a what can only be perceived as "cooler" route and sit out on the election or write in a candidate that has no chance of winning. Like it our not this election is important, it will determine how the rest of the world perceives us as a nation, and will determine our nations future. Our economy is crashing, we are at war, our teachers are incredibly underpaid, health care is unfordable and so is college. The next leader of our nation has SAY in all of these and so many more important issues. I don't care who you're voting for, I have a preference obviously, but I'd rather you vote against that preference than just sit aside not vote. Please, please, please--Vote on November 4th if you're registered (since the deadline to register was last Tuesday).

I do have to agree that
I do have to agree that absolutely everyone should vote not just in this election but at every possible opportunity. However, I've fought long and hard with this idea of voting for the lesser evil and I just can't do it. I know the candidates I vote for will not win this election, but I refuse to vote for a platform that I can't stand behind. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Which brings me back to agreeing with you that disliking both of the two prominent candidates (lets face it, they're almost identical) is no reason not to vote, there are dozens of parties with candidates in the race.
You're not alone, Mateo
I've heard this argument a lot lately: "Obama or McCain is absolutely going to win, so a vote for anyone else is a wasted vote."
Don't buy in to the peer pressure. Just because it's popular, doesn't make it right. If you disagree with the current two party debacle, then don't buy in. "Be the change you wish to see in the world." I don't think that's idealism; I think that's long-term pragmatism.
